LUXGNOSIS

Metal Para Todos 5

LUXGNOSIS

Dying Light

Dying Light

‘Far From Life’ (Heavy Metal)

The band came together in 2019 when Jeff and Jim met Shaun at a Godsmack concert through mutual friends. Conversation came up about original music and Shaun said he’d like to give the project a listen. Shaun was traditionally a thrash drummer, so the music and tempo was a bit different than he was used to, but he added something special to it almost immediately. Chris Fritz had already tried to hire Shaun for a cover band and found out he was joining Jim and Jeff for an original project. After listening to a demo of a few of the songs Chris quickly became interested. (Chris, Jim and Doug have all been lifelong friends since high school) Doug Edwards originally declined doing an original project but couldn’t resist joining the group. It wasn’t long after that the band release a 7-song demo titled Shallow Grave which can be found on all streaming platforms. After gigging the songs over the summer, the group got into some serious song writing and decided to put together an 11-song studio release. They teamed up with Charlie Berezansky of Rival Sound studio and laid the foundation of the album “Far From Life”.
Each member has its own list of influences, but the main song writers are influenced by Black Sabbath, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden, Guns and Roses, and of course Ozzy.
The bands’ philosophy is simple: “We want to write music we would listen to. Today’s commercial metal music market is flooded with a specific “sound”. It’s not a bad sound, but the era of music we loved is the 80’s and early 90’s metal style of music. We are trying to make music influenced by that era yet keep it modern. In doing that we have discovered a sound and style of our own. Please take a listen, hopefully you’ll enjoy hearing it as much as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

Fetus Aftermath

Fetus Aftermath

‘Aftermath’ (Thrash Metal)

From Ottawa Metal ’80s – ’90s by Randy Chase. When I was 15-16, one of my first “bands” was the kind where you’ve got a band logo drawn before you even have a song. We were called Assassin–just me on drums and Darcy on guitar. He was the first guitarist I ever knew who played real METAL guitar. Impressed the hell out of me. We jammed only a few times, and that was all for Assassin. All that remains is the logo (in a box somewhere). Darcy Rawlins went on to form Fetus Aftermath in 1991. By the end of the 1990s, his band released two demo tapes (1994, 1995) and an album called ‘Everything Disgusting And Vile’ (1999). Here’s a track from the first Fetus Aftermath demo: http://goo.gl/ZZ1ACY. And a later (but still young) photo of Darcy from the Fetus Aftermath MySpace page ( https://myspace.com/fetusaftermath/). — RC
FETUS AFTERMATH: “THE ALTER” DEMO (1994)“We never had the grander look of things, or else we wouldn’t have called the band what it was,” said Darcy Rawlins of his band, Fetus Aftermath, on a recent radio interview with CKCU’s ‘Meltdown.’ Love it or hate it, he added, you’ll remember it. After befriending Disciples of Power during their stay in Ottawa around 1990, Darcy and Sean McArthur followed them back to Edmonton, where Fetus Aftermath was, uh, born in 1991. Returning to Ottawa, Darcy found guitarist Ray Fortier, who in turn recruited his drummer friend, Frank. A nice bonus about Frank was that he already had a rehearsal space in the CHEZ-106 building (126 York St.) — the mecca of the thrash and death metal scene in Ottawa at the time. In 1994, Fetus Aftermath recorded a demo at Rock’s Wonderland, just around the corner from CHEZ. The three-song cassette, called ‘The Alter’, was sold in Ottawa at Record Runner, but also distributed in other cities, with a clever distribution tracking technique: white labels for Ottawa, green for Montreal and red for Toronto. You can stream the full 1994 demo on YouTube [https://bit.ly/2D9L39i] or download it directly from F.A.’s old Angelfire (!!) website: https://bit.ly/2RxoQLm

According to their 2018 Meltdown interview, Fetus Aftermath had previously been to CKCU for an interview in 1994, to promote their demo. The band was drunk and a bit unruly, apparently; a real handful for the host: “We probably gave him a heart attack,” says Darcy in the recent sober and gentlemanly interview with Dmitri on Feb. 19th last year.

You can listen to the full Fetus Aftermath interview, with music and talk about the old Ottawa metal scene of the ‘90s, herehttps://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/56/36355.html.
All three songs on the 1994 demo were re-recorded for their 1999 CD album on Withdrawl Records, ‘Everything Disgusting And Vile.’ The 1999 line-up of Fetus Aftermath has reunited and will likely re- appear on the Ottawa scene in 2019

LOCKJAW - Devil In Disguise

LOCKJAW

‘Devil In Disguise’ (Heavy Metal)

The Texas metal outfit is ready to make a huge and much overdue comeback. Lockjaw is a band based in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. he Fear. From the depth and energy of alternative rock down the impactful edge of heavy metal, there are no rules. The group has a rather long history, fueled by the friendship of the band members, who got together to form this band while in high school in the late 90s. The music scene was quite different back then, but just like today, Lockjaw was never interested in chasing trends. These talented musicians had the vision to make their own music and truly give it their all. Lockjaw started making music in 1998, and it didn’t take long for the group to be able to record and release a handful of EPs throughout the local scene. The band’s music earned a solid reputation, and Lockjaw soon grew to the ranks of excellent local bands, on stage and in the studio.  The group is on the verge of making their return with some brand-new music! The band hit the studio with famed producer Chris Collier, already well-known for his work with seminal bands such as Korn, as well as Lynch Mob, Prong, and KMX, only to mention a few. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that these songs depict the band at its best. Instead of releasing a whole record at once, Lockjaw is set to be releasing a handful of singles throughout the years, allowing their releases to seamlessly spread over time and giving the audience a nice constant stream of content.
If you are a fan of artists such as Metallica, Lamb Of God, Amon Amarth, Opeth, and Machine Head, and Slipknot, this one is definitely going to be right up your alley. Production-wise, the band’s new music is just as exciting and crisp as you might expect from such high standards of recording and production.  Find out more about Lockjaw, and do not miss out on the band’s upcoming music, which is going to be available throughout the web’s premier digital streaming platforms.
