Kings Of Other Wings

Kings Of Other Wings

‘Phoenix Rising’ (Heavy Metal)

Kings Of Other Wings was born out of a Black Sabbath cover band when the four members began writing some original material. The band got together writing new material and rehearsing to prepare for recording some of the songs at Hellfire Studios in 2017. More recordings were added in 2019. Then just as the band were ready for gigs in the Melbourne metal scene, covid hit after they were only able to do a single live show. With live shows not happening they focused upon completing the album, often remotely or in the studio as lockdowns would allow. Joel Taylor of the Black Lodge Recording Studio, Brunswick East worked with the band to complete the recording and did a killer job mixing and mastering the album, ready for release in January of 2022. They had one live online performance at Singing Bird Studios in May of 2020 but apart from that they have not played live since. Now that the lockdowns have eased in Melbourne the band hope to promote the album through live shows and have also begun writing new material for a follow up album.

SMASH-YOUR-ENEMIES

SMASH YOUR ENEMIES

‘GENOCIDE’ (Hardcore)

It should come as no surprise that Detroit’s own Smash Your Enemies habitually leave the art of subtlety at the door. This hardcore crew’s sound and aesthetic is one of wholeheartedly straightforward aggression: no gimmicks, just groove-laden bellicosity.
“Genocide is for sure, our heaviest record to date. We wanted to change things up for this one, rather than write the same record over and over. It’s a different animal now. There are influences and styles from all of us. We all listen to a lot of different music and to a certain degree, that comes out in this one.
Genocide is angry, it’s dark, and not without intent”.
 – Guitarist, Chris Norman
GENOCIDE , in short, is designed for bloody knuckles, bruised ribs, and the sweet taste of violent catharsis. Featuring a notably burly low end, spine-snapping riffage, breakdowns a-plenty, and snarled vocals dripping with attitude, Smash Your Enemies proudly exemplify the embattled realm of hardcore metal. As such, they will undoubtedly appeal to acolytes of Terror, Kublai Khan, Madball , and, of course, Hatebreed –the latter of which, given this outfit’s homage of a moniker, is practically a given.

At this stage, the hardcore scene is exceedingly familiar territory for Smash Your Enemies. Since their official formation in 2008, they’ve been putting in the work, the result of which has been a series of shows throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, as well as a stream of EPs across the past decade. Each fresh release is a reinstatement of intent–indeed, their previous effort, 2019’s Become Death, was praised for its no-nonsense application of pugilistic fury. In the words of No Echo, “the intimidating metallic hardcore on display is as cold blooded as their homestate’s punishing winter.”
Needless to say, these Detroiters strive to make a similarly aggressive impact with their forthcoming 7-track, due March 4th of 2022. Genocide is Smash Your Enemies’ second release via Upstate Records, and serves to shake things up in the viscerality department. Featuring several (comparatively) slower tracks, yet clocking in at a brisk 20 minutes, Genocide is a vicious and varied affirmation of what Smash Your Enemies does best: injecting the hallmarks of the genre’s foundations with a fresh enthusiasm, vigor, and a notable willingness to pulverize their audience. Bottom line? Come March, fans of metallic hardcore–or blatantly muscular antagonism in general–will do well to take heed.

Arc Arrival

Arc Arrival

‘Forsaken’ (Modern Metal)

Stirlingshire tech metal trio Arc Arrival made their entrance onto the scene with the release of their debut EP C.H.A.O.S in 2020. The first 2 singles Count Havoc Among Our Sins and Re:Birth picked up national and global airplay across the likes of Total Rock and Amazing Radio. The band then decided to shake things up a little with a 3rd release from the EP, Trigger The Silence, and brought in alternative Hip-Hop duo Hessian Renegade to remix the track. The resulting collaboration brought the band more mainstream attention across the airwaves, both national and global. In 2021 the band released the double a-side Engineered To Die and Resurrection which picked up airplay across new territories including the USA and mainland Europe.
New single Forsaken is released on Friday 25th February and is from the forthcoming EP Amethyst which is released 29/4/22.
“As the title suggests, Forsaken is about being left behind and underestimated to make a return. The importance of the song’s message is that no matter what happens in your life, if everyone is a false friend and no longer genuine, and all you feel is loneliness and despair then do not give in to the darkness and always rise up to become stronger. Only you can pick yourself off the floor and the people who forsook you will find that you were not as weak as they once supposed” – Arc Arrival
